Monster Wars Strategy Guide
- You can get a lot of useful information even if you suffer defeat. Don’t be afraid to try a stage to scout out what types of enemies and other challenges are waiting for you. Even if you lose, you’ll have valuable information that can help you make a new plan. For example, if the level has a lot of Fauns in it, you’ll want to leave your Zombies at home. And who knows? You may just win it on your first try!
- If you get stuck on a level and nothing you try seems to be working, you may need to invest in powering up your units. You can replay earlier stages or play some of the extra modes if you need more gems for this. The side-scrolling stages are particularly good for earning extra gems. Make sure you’re also keeping an eye on your fortress’s defenses, too. Boosting the hit points of your fortress can buy you a few extra seconds against invading enemies that might make the difference between success and failure.
- Make the most of the user interface! Take full advantage of the buttons at the top of the screen to give orders to your units. Battles tend to get messy in a hurry, causing chaos in the ranks. A quick tap of a button can bring everyone back into formation, filling up any gaps that may have been opened in your defenses. Similarly, you can order all of a unit type to press forward and attack rather than trying to guide them individually. It makes things much easier.
- While more powerful units like Spideys and Wolfys can be very useful in tough fights, don’t underestimate the power of the basic Skullys and Skully Archers. Skullys are cheap to summon and can provide a surprising amount of offense and defense. As for Skully Archers, if you line up a few of them in each row, they’ll take a huge chunk out of any incoming do-gooders before they even get a chance to lay a finger on your forces.
- Trolls are the strongest monsters in the game thanks to their extremely powerful special skill. While slow and not necessarily the best in terms of stats, a sufficiently powered-up Troll can end many levels with one use of his dead Shockwave skill. If you’re just looking to get through the game, invest your resources into upgrading the Troll to Tier 4 as soon as possible!
- Even in real life, the army with the most resources is often the victor. In Monster Wars, your entire ability to generate units rests on your gem intake. Don’t forget to invest some of your winnings at the Netherworld hub to upgrade your Goblin Miners and their capabilities. While these upgrades are terribly costly, they’ll pay out serious dividends in the long run.
- If you need more soulstones, you can get them by playing the extra modes, completing certain challenges, and by clearing out story campaign maps on higher difficulties. Use them sparingly, as you’ll never really have a surplus of them at hand. It’s a good idea to just hang onto them until you hit a point where you really need to use them to move forward. At the very least, you’ll have a better sense of which units you prefer for your playing style and won’t have wasted them on ones you don’t like.
- Just as in Legendary Wars, stacking your units is a solid plan, provided you’re able to get the positioning correct. Units that overlap each other will generally see any incoming damage spread amongst them, keeping everyone alive to dish out damage that much longer. Be smart about it, though. Many enemies have skills that can deal serious pain to units within a concentrated area, so if you’ve got a lot of units bunched up you could lose an awful lot in the blink of an eye.
